2013 has a different feeling to it at the moment than 2012 did. Last year was not a very good year, I think it is safe to say that many people would agree with that. Weather or not it is because the beginning of 2012 brought with it the fear of the end of man-kind (even if not all of us believed it) 2012 turned out to be a year many of us would rather forget; but hey, that it just my opinion, with fears of Apocalypse, Syrian civil war death tolls rising to above 60,000, and horrific school shootings, just to name a few, yes I believe 2012 was destined to be a rather trying year for us all.
My s/o and I recently came up with a few goals for ourselves, as is normal with the new year, however one thing we came up with that is new is the practice of doing something even though we don't want to. We've gotten into the habit of not doing something if we don't want to, but sometimes doing things we don't want to can lead to better things; For example yesterday my s/o and I went out to do errands. I wanted to get tea lights and IKEA has had descent ones in the past, we didn't want to go, but we went any ways without complaint, and found out we have almost $130 on a gift card for IKEA, which we never would have known had we not gone.
It's a small and simple example but it drives my point, doing things you don't really want to do, and yet not complaining about doing them, but making it a good experience, can lead to great things, or perhaps even help to prevent something else from happening, perhaps had we not gone IKEA, maybe my s/o and I would have had an argument, or gotten into a car accident, or spent money on tea lights elsewhere, money we'd have needed later on, instead of using our IKEA gift card. We watched Cloud Atlas and it really made the impression that the things we do matter, the smallest thing can have the biggest impact somewhere else in a way you may not ever know.
Among the many things I have told myself I want to do and work on this year, being conscientious of the small things that we do or don't do, and how they accumulate and make impacts larger than their individual selves, is at the forefront of my mind. Something as simple as a quick argument can leave a lasting energy imprint. the remnants of of argument, for example, may not mean much but what about every argument you have? One disagreement may not mean much, but all of them may accumulate to the dissolving of a relationship. That is an extreme example but such things are very important and we don't always think about it. we don't think how something like doing an errand without complaint, with a smile and good energy, could lead away from an argument, or something bad and instead lead towards something far better.
So my advise this year is to be more aware of the little decisions and actions you make, they may or may not impact only you directly, but many others as well. Like ripples in the ocean, or singular drops of water, "For what is the ocean, but a multitude of drops."
Happy New Year my beauties.
