Recyclable Candles

Although you may not know it-yet; I am an avid Candle lover! i just love the warm light they give off, and the many different scents you can get them in! What I don't like about them however is the abundance of leftover wax I have left in the sweet little jars...I really don't like having to throw all that nice smelling wax away.

Many, Many, years ago my younger sister gave this wonderful little thing called a candle warmer, and I have to admit, I used it a few times but my love of lighting candles had me enraptured so it sat unused for quite awhile. Recently I found it again and I was delighted to realize that I had a use for it! I had accumulated a number of candles that I had burned the wick to non existence. I just couldn;t throw them away, positive that there was a use i could find for them...My boyfriend calls it hoarding, I call it crafty recycling :) FINALLY I could prove to him that I wasn't a hoarder! YAY!

I took my old jars of used candles and carefully scraped out all the dirty bits on top.
Then I took a spoon and cut the wax out of the jar and put it into another plate or bowl, making sure to take out the wick & metal stub and cleaning/shaving off all the dirty bits.

Once I have all my wax clean and pristine. I set it aside then I clean out the jar it came in. being sure to get the sticker and sticker-goo off and using extra hot soapy water to get all the remaining wax residue out and off of the jar until it is clean & pristine too! The next step is to double check my wax is clean, you may end up with a lot less wax than before you started cleaning it up, but that is ok.

** If your wax has too much dirty bits in it, kind of marbled through out, just put the whole jar onto your candle warmer for a couple hours, then when it's all melted, take it off, and let it cool completely, most of the dirt should have gone to the bottom of the jar, this will make it much easier to scrape and clean you wax.

when everything is yep, you guessed it, Clean & Pristine! you can put the cleaned wax back into the now clean and dry jar, put your jar onto the candle warmer in a place out of the way, turn it on, and marvel in the way this recycled candle makes your home smell wonderful....

** A note to the hungry, if you are weak willed when it comes to food (like me!) then I advise not to buy candles that smell like food, like vanilla sugar cookies, as my boyfriend and I realized at mid-night on more than one occasion!!!!!

Happy Recycling!!!!

Send me your pictures if you make this!! I'd love to see them and post them!
